Would be really helpful if you’d offer a form on the site to submit bugs/feature requests.
Jenner February 20, 2009
Cool site. I really like the idea. One thing that will really be cool is having the reminders send a text/email when they come due…
philip tadros February 20, 2009
@hogger agreed’ will do!
@jenner thanks they do, should be in Settings : Mobile & Email Settings
sarah February 23, 2009
would also be great if multiple users can submit to the same email address. I didn’t realize the texthog address was unique for the registered user and had my husband sending to the same address for the last week, none of which showed up. boooo.
Omar February 24, 2009
How do you cancel your account? I have Tmobile and have tried everything to get it to work with my shadow and it does not work.
Lucretia February 24, 2009
I have tried twice to e-mail my expenditures to my unique texthog e-mail account and nothing has registered here. I added a transaction on-line and it worked, but not by e-mail. I tried putting the category in the subject and expenditure in the body and the category and expenditure in the subject line but nothing has registered. bug?
Lucretia February 24, 2009
Okay. i seemed to have figured it out. I forgot the comma. I’m pretty savvy with this stuff so maybe that should be made clearer… the exact format for entry. sorry!
philip tadros February 27, 2009
@sarah
multiple users can submit to the same email address.
@Omar
On some Tmobile phones you have to send as an mms, or you can email.
@Lucretia
Should work, we have hundreds active and over 1,000 transactions : will make it more clear, thanks for the feedback!
feel free to email me phil@doejo.com or even call my cell if you need a hand, we just launched and really wanna make this work 708.655.6753 thanks!

I love this software, It really helps me see what Im spending and where its going. One Complaint, the text feature has never worked, I send email via my cellphone more than from my computer, texthog.com never recieves them or they never get posted to my reports.
Texthog Support March 2, 2009
Joseph,
thank you for your reply! What cell phone provider do you use? There’s a strict format for texthog messages: “Name1, Name2,…,NameX, Amount”. You can use any of the following strings:
Gas, $3.50
Gas, 3.50
Gas, Shell, $3.50
Gas, Shell, 3.50
Check maybe you were using different formatting. Please, let us know. Thank you!

help! i would love to use this and keep the boss off my back! i have been able to get entries to show up when i mail from pc. no success with email or mms from t-mo bb pearl. also no success from verizon env by email and it wont even let me text!
Texthog Support March 9, 2009
@tony
Please, check texthog email address that you’re using to send transactions. Our error logs show that there’s a typo (g instead of q in email address).
Thank you for your response, hope you enjoy texthog!

Thanks for this great online tool
Please, add multiple currency support (EUR, GBP, CHF, HUF, etc) for international users. Thanks!

Can you give us the correct format for txt or email?
I am very interested in getting the correct category on my sent txt or email.
Thanks.
Darren April 1, 2009
@MichealT The correct formatting for a text or email is:
Coffee, 2
Coffee, $2.00
Keep in mind that all tags MUST be separated by a comma in order for them to be identified individually. You can use as many tags as you need to identify your purchase, though we recommend 1-3 to keep it simple.
Please also refer to the above post by our support.
Thanks!
MichealT April 1, 2009
Thanks for the format.
Where can I put the tags and the category. I love to be able to put category in it.
What I did was sent it as:
Dinner, ,
MichealT April 1, 2009
Oops.
Here’s the format once again:
Dinner, (Store), (price)
This came our with the “Dinner, (store)” in the description. I thought the dinner would be the category.
Thanks a lot and I love this site. I will be using this a lot.

Hello, first day using TEXTHog. It is really useful and helps me get a idea for my spending. Good work!
The problem is when I’ m updating dates almost everytime they change to a different date, not the one that I’ve typed down.
What can be the solution?
Good day!

Amazing tool with great potential! I don’t know if its me, but under “Reports” my spending by Day never seems to make sense / possible error or need of clarification.
Also, I think a cool feature would be under “Reports” further stratify the tags in the pie charts…. Ex-
Instead of the pie chart listing
-”Tolls”
-”Gas, Shell”
-”Gas, Exxon”
Pie Chart listing could be
-”Tolls”
-”Gas”
and clicking on “gas” could bring up pie chart of sub-category of the Gas transactions(“Exxon” and “Shell”) All based on the Tags u input

I’ve been looking at xpenser.com, too. I like the way they do mileage. In your settings, you include a multiplier for mileage costs, such as $0.505 (the current IRS-allowed business expense for each mile). Then it calculates the dollar amount when you put in the number of miles. But, if you can export to Quickbooks, then the miles could be exported and QB will calculate the $$.

Excited by this tool and have been logging my transactions for the last three days…. tried to export to excel using the mac with no luck… the file came up with stuff in the wrong columns and was missing a lot of stuff… Also, I would love to be able to click on a tag, and have everything with the same tag be summarized. For example, I want to track spending on Visa so thought if I clicked on Visa, I could get a summary for it all to know how much I needed to pay without keeping receipts…. otherwise thought I could download, but am having trouble doing that as mentioned above. Your advice?

How long till we see new features for TextHog? I am really interested in seeing a starting balance / running balance, and maybe an option for deposits, etc. Right now I am using custom budgets to track monthly income against what I spend. Also, getting a balance back with the confirmation text would be cool. Or even sending a BAL text to TextHog to get a balance texted back. Otherwise I really like what TextHog does and have been using the crap out of it to help keep spending straight along with my online bank account. The ease of use can not be beat! The only slight glitch i have noticed is sometimes when you input transactions, TextHog only capitalizes the first letter of the tag(s)…and other times it will let you?

Great site……love it! One should be able to add “Categories”…..
